Class Description: This Language Arts class will closely follow the College and Career Readiness Standards and the Alabama English Language Arts Course of Study for literacy. It is designed to increase students’ communication skills through reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Our primary focus in Language Arts will be writing grounded in textual evidence, demonstrating the rules of grammar, and expressing oneself orally.
This year we will read a variety of fiction and non-fiction including novels, short stories, dramas, poetry, essays, and articles.
Our Major Units of Study will include but not limited to:

A = 90-100% Tests 25% B = 80-89% Classwork 25% C = 70-79% Writing/ Projects 25% D = 60-69% Homework 25%
Make-up Work: Students are responsible for obtaining, completing, and submitting any missed work. The student must have an excused absence and obtain missed work the first day he/she returns to class.
Late-Work Policy: For all major assignments, there will be a 10 point deduction taken from each assignment’s grade per day late, up to 3 days late. After 3 days late, assignments will not be accepted, resulting in a 0. Extra Credit: All students will have an opportunity to increase their grade at the end of each nine weeks. Teacher will provide an optional extra credit project for students to submit worth 200 points.

Remind: We will use a program called Remind in this class. Remind is a communication tool that allows parents to receive notifications via text, or email. It will primarily be used to keep students and parents updated on homework assignments, projects, and school events. Information regarding how to sign up for your child’s class will be distributed at the beginning of the year. |
